Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve light stability by including a specific N-formylated steric hindered amine in a coating composition.
CONSTITUTION: An N-formylated steric hindered amine (B) containing a group of the formula (R is H or CH3) is obtained by reacting (a) an N-nonsubstituted compound in the presence of (b) acetic anhydride/formic acid and (c) a solvent (e.g.: tetrahydrofuran) at 0°C to room temperature. (A) a coating composition comprising (d) a binder such as an acrylic resin, an alkyd resin, an epoxy resin or the like and (e) a catalyst, a solvent, a pigment or the like as required is compounded with the B component of 0.1-5wt.% to the (d) component and (C) other light stabilizer as required.
