PURPOSE: To obtain coating compsn. for repairing a brightner-contg. coating film which decreases the color difference between repaired and unrepaired coated parts and can always give the same color tone and to provide a method for repairing the coating film using the compsn.

CONSTITUTION: To coating compsn. is for repairing defective parts of a multilayerd coating film comprising an intercoating layer, a brigtner-contg. topcoating layer, and, if necessary, a clear coating layer or for repairing spray dust parts formed by coating the surface of an intercoating layer in a different color. This compsn. contains a pigment of the same type as that of the intercoating layer and a vehicle of the same type as that of the brightner-contg. layer and satisfies the conditions that: the ratio of PWC1 of the intercoating compsn. to the PWC2 of the repairing coating compsn. is 0.5-0.9 and the difference in the color value (N) of the Munsell color system between the repair coating layer and the intercoating layer is 2 or lower. After the repair coating compsn. is applied, the brightener-contg. coating film and, if necessary, a clear coating film are successively formed.
