Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a coating composition which contains a specific copolymer and an antifouling agent as essential components and is useful as an antifouling coating for the marine materials because no peeling and cracking occurs in the coated film and the film uniformly dissolves at an appropriate rate in seawater to keep excellent antifouling effect for a long period of time.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition contains, as essential components, (A) a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing a monomer mixture of a monomer of the formula I [R1 to R3 are alkyl, aryl; X is (meth)acryloyloxy, maleinoyloxy] such as trimetylsilyl (meth)acrylate and a monomer of the formula II (R4 is R1; Y is X; n is 1-25) and (B) an antifouling agent such as copper powder or dithiocarbamic acid. The component A is prepared from 1 to 95wt.% of the formula I monomer, 1 to 95wt.% of the formula II monomer and 0 to 95wt.% of other monomers.
