PURPOSE: To provide a coating composition of high wear, heat and ultraviolet resistance and adhesivity, for application to transparent plastics, comprising specific proportion of a film-forming component including organosilanetriol and a copolymer from aromatic compound and epoxy group-contg. trialkoxysilane.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition comprising (A) 100pts.wt. of a film- forming component made up of (i) 10W90wt% of an organosilanetriol of formula R1Si(OH)3 (R1 is monovalent group selected from 1W3C alkyls and aryls) and/or its partial condensate and (ii) 90W10wt% of colloidal silica and (B) 5W40pts.wt. of a copolymer derived from (i) a compound of formula I (Q is of formula II or III; X is H or OH, at least one being OH; R2 is 1W18C alkyl) (e.g. 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone) and (ii) epoxy group-contg. trialkoxysilane (e.g. r-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane).
