PURPOSE: To obtain a coating for insulated electric wires having excellent compatibility, low in the residual solvent content of the film therefrom, improved in the safety and functionality in closed type relay coils, etc., by using specific α-hydroxyisobutyric acid compound(s) as a solvent in a coating having urethane linkage for insulated electric wires.
CONSTITUTION: This coating for insulated electric wires is obtained by using, as a solvent, preferably ≥10wt.% (based on the whole solvent) of one or more kinds of α-hydroxyisobutyric acid (derivative) expressed by the formula [R1 is H or a CnH2n+1 ((n) is l-10); R2 is H or a CnH2n+l ((n) is 1-5)], e.g., α- hydroxyisobutyric methyl ester, in a coating having urethane linkage for insulated electric wires. The second aimed insulated electric wire is obtained by coating a conductor with this coating and then baking it to form an insulated film having a specific thickness.
