To obtain the subject coating material sufficient in surface strength as paper for offset printing and exhibiting no adhesivity by including a glucan having a specific mol.wt. and a cyclic structure.
For example, 50g of corn starch for rice cake is thermally dissolved in a 20mM sodium acetate buffer solution (pH5.5) containing 10mM NaCl. On the other hand, purified CGTase is dissolved in a 10mM sodium acetate buffer solution (pH5.5) so as to give 50 units/ml. 50ml of the enzyme solution is added to the solution of the above raw material to react at 55°C for 48hr. The reaction solution is heated at 100°C for 20min and subsequently subjected to a centrifugal separation to remove the denatured enzyme protein. The equal amount of ethanol is added to the supernatant to precipitate. The precipitates are lyophilized to obtain 20g of a glucan (mol.wt. range is 8,000-400,000: average mol.wt. is about 60,000) having a cyclic structure.
