PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrophilic coating material for tissue drag reduction consisting of a specific block copolymer and having improved friction properties to be suitable as a material used for medical or veterinary use.
CONSTITUTION: Block copolymer consist of (A) a block having couplings easily subjected to hydrolytic in vivo decomposition disposed at random together with e-caprolactone couplings and (B) a block containing a poly(alkylene) oxide. For example, it comprises the block A containing couplings of a cyclic ester of an α-hydroxy acid together with e-caprolactone, and the block B containing a poly(alkylene) oxide having a number average molar weight of 5,000-20,000 in a form of ABA or AB block copolymer having a glass transition temperature of 16°C or less. Medical or surgical devices such as a catheter, a surgical needle, a surgical clip or the like coated with a lubricant produced from the ABA copolymer and having improved friction properties are provided.
