To provide a coating weight controller for hot dip continuous metal plating where satisfactory plating appearance free from appearance defects can be obtained.

In the device, the coating weight of hot dip metal stuck to the surface of a steel sheet taken up from a plating tank holding the hot dip metal and moving to the upper part is controlled. For example, in figure, the upper part of a plating tank 3 is provided with electromagnetic coils 6 arranged so as to be confronted at the respective faces of the surface and back faces in a steel sheet; the electromagnetic coils 6 each have a triangular cross-sectional shape, and are arranged in such a manner that the peak of each triangle lies at the lowest part, and each face confronted with the steel sheet is made parallel to the steel sheet. They may be arranged in such a manner that the distance between each face confronted with the steel sheet and the steel sheet is made wider as it goes from the lower part to the upper part. Further, each electromagnetic coil 6 preferably has a tubular hollow structure for flowing a cooling medium at the inside thereof.
