Abstract:
At least one layer of this coating positioned on a surface of a substrate is a domain structure layer constituted by a plurality of columnar crystals including two or more domains of differing compositions. The domain structure layer has residual compressive stress and the two or more domains have identical crystalline structures. Within each of the columnar crystals, the crystal orientations of the domains are aligned. If the size in a growth direction of each of a plurality of first domains existing in the domain structure layer is defined to be the diameter of an imaginary circumscribed circle contacting the first domain, and if a closest distance in the growth direction of each of the first domains is defined to be a shortest distance among linear distances joining the center of the corresponding circumscribed circle to the centers of other circumscribed circles adjacent to the corresponding circumscribed circle, an average value of the sizes of the first domains is 1-5 nm and an average value of the closest distances of the first domains is 1-8 nm. If X is the average value of the sizes, the sizes of at least 95% of the first domains are larger than 0 and smaller than 2.0X, and the sizes of fewer than 95% of the first domains are at least 0.7X and no greater than 1.3X. If Y is the average value of the closest distances, the closest distances of at least 95% of the first domains are larger than 0 and smaller than 2.0Y, and the closest distances of fewer than 95% of the first domains are at least 0.7Y and no greater than 1.3Y.
