Abstract:

To efficiently realize more efficient compression of information.

A control unit 212 of an image information coding device 200 sets quantization accuracy on the basis of acquired quality information, a quantization step size supplying unit 213 decides a quantization step width on the basis of a control signal supplied from the unit 212, and a quantizing unit 203 quantizes a conversion coefficient with the quantization step width decided by the unit 213. The quantized conversion coefficient is supplied to a coding unit 204. A coding table supplying unit 214 selects an optimum coding table on the basis of the control signal supplied from the unit 212, and the unit 204 codes the conversion coefficient which has been quantized by using the coding table supplied from the unit 214. This apparatus is applicable to an image information coding device and to an image information decoding device.
