Concerning this coin sorter, slot (S) sensors 24A and 24B are arranged while facing adjacently to coin rolling surfaces 26A of both side plates 26B and 26C of an injection track 26, and material/diameter(MD) detection sensors 25A and 25B are arranged while facing at positions corresponding to the diameter of a coin at the upper parts of positions, where the S sensors 24A and 24B are arranged, on both the side plates 26B and 26C. Only when an inserted coin 50 is passed through the S sensors 24A and 24B and this is detected by the S sensor 24B, the MD sensor 24A is driven and the material or diameter of the inserted coin 50 is detected by the confronted MD sensor 25B. When the material or diameter of the inserted coin 50 is detected, the driving of the MD sensor 25A is stopped.
