Title:
COLD CATHODE DISCHARGE LAMP AND MANUFACTURE OF ITS ELECTRODE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02273452
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture a cold cathode discharge lamp which enhances its starting property, and its electrodes by equipping an internal electrode with a lanthanide rare earth element as electron emitting material, and starting the discharge lamp readily in a short period of time even with a low starting voltage.

CONSTITUTION: An Ni pipe 20 serving as an electrode body is filled with powder of an electron emitting material 16 formed from a lanthanide rare earth element and is contracted by a cold drawing treatment so that its external diameter is 0.6mm or so, and it is then cut into a predetermined length by a cutter. A cold cathode 3 is thereby formed and is joined to a lead wire 4 and sealed to the end of a valve 2. A fluorescent body coat 5 is formed on the inner face of the valve 2, and discharge gas such as xynon and the like is sealed inside the valve. A banded outside electrode 6 is formed on the outer surface of the valve 2 along its axial direction. The lanthanide rare earth element has a small work function and readily emits electrons by the missile of micro radiation from the earth crust and cosmic rays, and, since the cause of discharge exists, the cold cathode discharge lamp is started in a short period of time with a low starting voltage.
