The cold crucible melting furnace 10 is provided with a melting crucible 16 divided into a plurality of segments; and a plurality of induction coils 12a, 12b wound on a periphery of the melting crucible 16. A.C. currents having different phases are fed to the respective induction coils and the molten metal in the melting crucible 16 is stably floated up by shifting magnetic field generated in the melting crucible 16. In this case, it is preferable that a high frequency current flows in the induction coil 12a at the lowermost part and the other induction coil 12b is resonated by a resonance circuit provided with a capacitor by deviating the phase.
