PURPOSE: To manufacture a wire rod having the diameter of 20 mm or below using a cold Pilger mill.
CONSTITUTION: A wire-like stock 7 is pulled out of a coil 6 hung on a hook 5 with a rotary transfer device 8 and inserted into a guide tube 11. The stock 7 leaving the guide tube 11 is sent to a roll stand 10 and formed into a wire rod having a cross sectional shape corresponding to a working contour which is provided in the peripheral edge of a roll in the roll stand by well-known rotating movement and reciprocating movement in the roll stand. Further, the roll stand 10 is reciprocated with a crank transmission device 15. When a rolling process is finished, the guide tube 11 and the rotary transfer device 8 are brought back in the direction approaching the coil 6. And the wire rod is cut with a cutting device 12 provided on the inlet side of the roll stand 10. This process is repeated.
