The color image processing apparatus includes: a first color converting means for performing color conversion from input image data to a color material color signal representing how a general person with color weakness sees in a normal output mode; a second color converting means for performing color conversion from the input image data to a color material color signal representing how the person with color weakness sees in a color sense simulation mode; a first saving processing means for performing processing for making color materials used to output the color material color signal obtained by the first color converting means less in consumption than color materials determined by the color material color signal when the normal output mode is selected and a color material saving function is set ON, and a saving control means for inhibiting the first saving processing by the first saving processing means when the color sense simulation mode is selected and the color material saving function is set ON.
