Abstract:
PURPOSE:To generate a good-balanced projection output even by means of a writing light source having a uniform level by deciding mutually corresponding respective switching ratios and film thicknesses with a prescribed birefringence phase difference kept constant regardless of wave length so as to make a corresponding applied voltage a driving voltage. CONSTITUTION:In three photo-conductive light bulbs 16-18, these rely on applied voltage V of a liquid crystal layer 1 respectively and are made to be birefringence ratio n(V) which generates birefringence to write incident lights, effective values of the applied voltage are made to be VR, VG, VB, the wave lengths of write lights are made to be lambdaR, lambdaG, lambdaB, and when the threshold voltage at the time of write light OFF of respective light bulbs are made to be Vth, dark, x(x=R, G, B), n(VR)/lambdaR= n(VG)/lambdaG= n(VB)/lambdaB and VX= Vth, dark, x(x=R, G, B) are satisfied. With this constitution, even if the writing light source such as CRT or the like is driven so as to output writing light of the equal strength with regard to RGB, lack of projection output light brightness can be well compensated, and it is thus possible to obtain a projection picture image with good hue balance in a display.
