Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain degradation of image quality such as a false contour following mapping of an achromatic axis, by expressing a curve to be handled as the achromatic axis based on a plurality of points, excluding fixed points, in a color gamut conversion, and by mapping using the above expression.
SOLUTION: A gray curve representing the achromatic axis of the color reproduction region of a printer is specified using a B-Spline function. Namely, gray color information of a patch being output by the printer is acquired (S1201), and the B-Spline function is calculated so as to wholly pass the five gray color points indicated by the information (S1202). Then, based on the above function, an L*a*b* value specifying the gray curve is obtained as coefficient (S1203, S1204). As such, the achromatic axis in the color reproduction range of the printer can be specified with good accuracy, and thereby the occurrence of the false contour, etc. following the mapping can be restrained.
