Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a colorant composition containing a colorant having good dispersilibility and controlled polarity by adding a resin such as a silicone resin or a polyolefin to a colorant having a specified structure having a carboxylic acid, sulfuric acid, a metal salt thereof and an alkyl, an alkoxyl or the like.
SOLUTION: The colorant is represented by the formula (wherein R1 to R12 are each an acid of COOH or -SO3H or a metal salt thereof, -CnH2n+1 (n is 1-8), -OCnH2n+1 (wherein n is 1-8), NH2, NO2, -OH, -H, -Cl, -Br, -I or -F. The resin is selected among silicone resins, polyolefins, polyolefin copolymers and rosin modified resins. The colorant content of the composition is 10-70 wt.%, and the balance comprises the resin. This colorant is dissolved in water, the solution is added to a solution of the resin, the resultant mixture is mixed under agitation, the water is separated, the remaining colorant-containing resin solution is dried, and the product of drying is ground to obtain a colorant composition. This composition is used to form e.g. a wet-process developing agent for electrophotography.
