PURPOSE: To efficiently perform the coking of hydrocarbon by coking a Conradson carbon-containing raw material and subsequently separating a heavy bottom fraction from the obtained product to hydrogenate the same and separating a formed low b.p. fraction to recirculate a head fraction and eliminating the bottom fraction.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon with Conradson carbon content of 5 wt.% or more is treated under a condition of 0-7.0 kg/cm2.gauge pressure within a coking zone 12 to obtain a vapor phase product containing coke and a high b.p. component of 524°C or higher. Subsequently, a heavy bottom fraction containing the high b.p. component and 5 wt.% of Conradson carbon is separated from this product by a precise filter system 3. A hydro-conversion catalyst is added to this separated fraction in a hydro-conversion zone 4 to hydrogenate said fraction and formed low b.p. hydrocarbon is separated in a separation zone 5 to be passed through a precise filter system 6 containing sintered porous ceramics to remove accompanied catalyst particles and a formed hydrocarbon filtrate is separated into light, medium and heavy fractions in a liquid-liquid separation zone 7 and a part of the heavy fraction is recirculated to a coking zone 3 to coke hydrocarbon.
