PURPOSE: To obtain a combined unit, having a reversible shape changing and articulated function, by integrally housing a memory material, which is formed of a shape memory alloy stored with a shape different from a cylindrical unit, in this cylindrical unit formed of a shape memory alloy in which the predetermined shape is stored.
CONSTITUTION: A combined unit A is formed by housing a memory material 2, which is formed of a shape memory alloy stored with a shape different from a cylindrical unit 1, as an internal unit in this cylindrical unit 1 formed of a shape memory alloy in which the predetermined shape is previously stored. Here the cylindrical unit 1 is cylindrically formed by weaving a wire rod, for instance, shape memory alloy thereafter with the predetermined shape stored. While in the memory material 2, a shape, which is a shape excepting the memory shape of the cylindrical unit to enable the combined unit A to perform objective work by restoring the memory shape by the memory material 2, is stored. For instance, by storing a shape such as a hook in the memory material 2, the combined unit A is utilized as a means for holding a cylindrical object or the like.
