To provide a communication channel switching method for relaying by which another communication channel can smoothly be selected when deterioration in communication quality is detected in one communication channel during wireless relaying.
A wireless repeater 20 in a PHS communication network conducts relaying by using different time slots for a public base station 21 and a mobile station 22. On the occurrence of deteriorated communication quality due to interference between the wireless repeater 20 and the public base station 21 or the mobile station 22 (s3), the public base station 21 gives a communication channel TCH switching instruction to the wireless repeater 20 (s4). When the communication channel TCH of a switching destination uses a time slot having been used for the communication with the mobile station 22, the switching instruction is given to the mobile station 22 (s5), and the switching sequence is executed (s6). When the switching is successful (s7), the wireless repeater executes the switching sequence with the public base station 21 (s8) and continues relaying (s2). When the switching fails (s7), the wireless repeater continues the original state and the relaying (s2).
