PURPOSE: To improve the business efficiency by reporting a calling subscriber's name to a called subscriber before response of telephone to give the selecting right of call to the called subscriber.

CONSTITUTION: When the calling subscriber inserts his ID card 1-3 to an ID card reader 1-4 and hooks off a handset 1-1, a controller 1-13 detects this state and instructs the reader 1-4 to read the ID code. The code read by reader 1-4 is sent to a private branch exchange and is converted to the calling subscriber's name with a conversion table between ID codes and names and is stored temporarily. When the calling subscriber dials the called subscriber's number to send a rining tone to a called telephone, the calling subscriber's name is read out and is transmitted in a form of the character code. In the called telephone, this character code is converted to a dot pattern by a character generator 1-15, and this pattern is transferred to a display device 1-7 and is displayed as characters.
