To provide a compacting method capable of releasing a green compact from punches without generating cracking and chipping in such a manner that flashes do not appear on the surface of the compact.
In this compacting method in which, in a state that powder filled into a cavity formed by an upper punch 1, a lower punch 2 and a die 3 is compressed by the upper and lower punches, at first, the die 3 is released, and, after that, the upper and lower punches are released, the free end 5 of a cantilever is elastically brought into contact with at least a part of the side face of the upper punch, the cantilever 4 bends into a shape along the side face of the upper punch when the same goes down the upper punch 1 and compresses the powder. After the compression of the powder and the release of the die 3, in the case the upper punch 1 is raised, the free end 5 of the cantilever slides on the side face of the upper punch as elastically contacted with the same, and, after the free end 5 of the cantilever comes to the end part of the upper punch, the same is brought into contact with the side face of the green compact adhered to the bottom face of the upper punch.
