Abstract:
To provide a composite fiber applicable to a wide range of use, as well as equipped with a carbon substance that exhibits high heat conductivity and electrical conductivity.SOLUTION: A composite fiber 1 includes: a metal carbide-containing fiber 3 with a metal carbide content of 92 wt.% or more; and a carbon layer 5 covering 90% or more of a surface of the metal carbide-containing fiber 3. The carbon layer 5 has a structure with carbon atoms aligned in a honeycomb state. A content rate of a metal composing the metal carbide shows a continuous change of reducing as closer to the surface, in the vicinity of the surface of the metal carbide-containing fiber 3. The composite fiber 1 is excellent in heat conductivity and electrical conductivity. In addition, a bond between the surface of the metal carbide-containing fiber 3 and the carbon layer 5 is strong so that the carbon layer 3 is difficult to separate from the fiber.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
