PURPOSE: To obtain a compose filler giving paper satisfying optical properties such as whiteness and opacity and physical properties such as burst strength and breaking length at the same time.

CONSTITUTION: This composite filler for paper is produced by polymerizing at least one kind of monomer selected from vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, an acrylic acid ester, styrene, butadiene and acrylonitrile to form a polymer having a glass transition temperature of ≤30°C, preferably -50 to +30°C and applying the obtained polymer to the surface of a filler composed of an inorganic compound such as calcium carbonate, titanium oxide and colloidal hydrated silica and having particle diameter of 0.1-3.0μm, preferably 0.2-1.0μm, especially 0.25μm. The amount of the polymer is 0.5-50wt.% based on the filler.
