PURPOSE: To produce a new composite material composed of a compound having a perovskite structure and a layered silicate by blending a metal alkoxide and/or a metal salt with a silicate crystal having a layer structure in an aqueous solvent, separating the reaction product and heating it.
CONSTITUTION: A metal alkoxide and/or a metal salt of an element constituting a high dielectric compound is dissolved in water or a mixture solvent containing water and a high polar organic solvent in a ratio of 10:1 to 1:10 and pH of the solution is adjusted to an acidic region within a range of about 0.5 to 1. A solution containing a silicate having a layer structure is added thereto and ammonia water is added thereto with stirring so as to increase pH up to an alkaline region within a range of 6 to 10. Thereby, fine colloidal particles of a precursor compound of a compound having a perovskeit structure are formed and a bond-forming reaction to the silicate is conducted on the surface and/or in the interlayers of the layered silicate crystal. The resultant material is filtered, washed and subsequently thermally dehydrated at 100 to 1000°C, thus producing the objective composite material.
