PURPOSE: To obtain composite material for ship excellent in heat insulating properties and lightweight properties by a method wherein thermosetting resin and multi-cellular vinylidene chloride-based resin foaming particles are essential ingredients.

CONSTITUTION: The manufacturing method of a formed article made of composite material is to obtain the formed article by hardening thermosetting resin after vinylidene chloride-based resin foaming particles and thermosetting resin stock are mixed and then filled in an object mold. Since the vinylidene chloride- based resin foaming particle is excellent in lightweight properties and heat insulating properties, the lightweight properties and heat insulating properties can be given to the composite material in proportion to the degree of mixing of foaming particles. Further, since the particle is also excellent in chemical resistance, painting with coating material is also possible. Accordingly, the resultant composite material is suitable for marine material and can be used for marine members such as the ship bottom, the hull, the hull shell, the ribs, the deck, the cabin, the partition wall, the longitudinals, the skeg, the hatch stiffener and the like of large boat, small boat, fishing boat, yacht, jet ski and the like and constitutional body such as surf board and the like.
