Abstract:

To provide a metal/fine carbon fiber composite material having a high thermal conductivity in which the characteristics of fine carbon fiber are made the most.

Regarding the composite material obtained by a process including the following stages (1) to (3), and in which fine carbon fiber is dispersed into a metal matrix (hereinafter referred to as a metal/fine carbon fiber composite material), mixed slurry in the stage (1) does not substantially comprise a dispersant to fine carbon fiber; wherein, the stage (1) is the one where the mixed slurry of [a component (a)], a metal comprising metal powder, fine carbon fiber and 1 to 3 C alcohol (hereinafter referred to as lower alcohol)/[a component (b)], fine carbon fiber is prepared; a stage (2) where, using the mixed slurry of the component (a)/the component (b) obtained in the stage (1), a mixed green compact of the component (a)/the component (b) is prepared; and a stage (3) where the mixed green compact of the component (a)/the component (b) obtained in the stage (2) is sintered.
