PURPOSE: To obtain a gas permeable membrane excellent in permeability and selectivity, by accumulating a polymer thin membrane comprising a material excellent in gas selective permeability on a polyaryl sulfone membrane having an asymmetric pore size through plasma polymerization under glow discharge.
CONSTITUTION: 22pts. polyaryl sulfone comprising one kind of a polymer constituted from rucurring units shown by structural formulae I WIII or a mixture comprising two kinds or more said polymers is uniformly dissolved in 24pts. dimethylformamide and 54pts. tetrahydrofuran to obtain a dope liquid. This dope liquid is applied to a smooth glass plate in a thickness of 268μm and, after the coated glass plate is horizontally held for 30sec, it is immersed in a solution prepared by dissolving 2.4ml acetone and 1.3g NaCl in 3l water for 60min, and subsequently dried in air to obtain an asymmetric pore size membrane with a thickness of 51μm. The resulting membrane is subjected to glow discharge at output of 20W while trimethylvinylsilane is introduced into a system at a speed of 1cm2/min. Thus obtained composite membrane has a permeation speed of 9.14×10-6cm2/cm2.sec.cm Hg and selectivity (O2/N2) of 4.62.
