PURPOSE: To form a compsn. contg. sodium chlorite which generates the amt. of the chlorine dioxide effective for sterilization in the compsn. by compounding the sodium chlorite, a reaction initiator and water.

CONSTITUTION: This compsn. contains the sodium chlorite, a chlorine dioxide sodium chlorite reaction initiator selected from the respective components A to E described below and a mixture composed thereof and the water. (A) Hydroxyalkyl cellulose having about 2 to 5C in an alkyl group, alkaline metal alginate, xanthan gum, carrageenan and agar, (B) a dye, (C) a compd. having aldehyde or acetal substituent, (D) perfumes exclusive of the compd. C and (E) monosaccharide or disaccharides. This compsn. forms the chlorine dioxide of a bactericidal concn. by the interaction of the sodium chlorite and the initiator described above within the predetermined time (generally within one week after mixing) after the production and has the viscosity suitable for maintaining the chlorine dioxide at a stationary concn. The compsn. viscosity is preferably about 75 to 100 cps. The concn. of the chlorine dioxide of the compsn. is about 0.1 to about 10 ppm.
