PURPOSE: To obtain the composition, useful for a detergent, a solvent, a degreasing agent, a fusing agent remover, a desiccant, which forms an effective azeotrope in using as a detergent without adversely affecting the ozone layer by adding one or more alcohols to difluormethoxy-2,2,2-trifluoroethane.

CONSTITUTION: A 0.005 to 25 wt.% alcohol (e.g. methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropranol) is added to 75 wt.% or more of difluoromethoxy-2,2,2- trifluoroethane (hereinafter referred to as DFMT). A two-component composition comprising about 97 wt.% DFMT and about 3 wt.% methanol constitutes an azeotrope having a boiling point of about 29.3°C under an atmospheric pressure. And an two-component composition comprising about 99.7 wt.% DFMT and about 0.3 wt.% ethanol constitutes an azeotrope having a boiling point of about 74.9°C. (This may be an alternate composition based on CFC-113). DFMT has no ozone destruction potential in an environmental influence.
