Title:
COMPOSITION FOR FALLING AND CONTROLLING VISCOSITY OF AQUEOUSDRILLING MUDDY WATER AND METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61223085
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A derivatized humate is used to control the viscosity of aqueous drilling fluids. It imparts high temperature stability to the drilling fluid when the fluid is exposed to elevated temperatures, and it provides filtrate fluid loss control. The humate is that found in association with certain titanium mineral deposits, and it is derivatized by reaction with a solubilizable source of chromium ions in the presence of a solubilizing agent, whereby a chromium complex is formed. The reaction can be effected over a wide pH range and a pH of about 6 to about 9 is preferred.
