PURPOSE: A composition containing γ-linolenic acid-containing fats and oils extracted from molds of Mortierella.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism (e.g., Mortierella isabellina, etc.) belonging to the genus Mortierella, capable of producing lipid having high content of γ-linolenic acid, is cultivated in a hydrocarbon medium, etc., to give a mold of Mortierella. Fats and oils containing γ-linolenic acid are extracted from the mold, and a composition for nutritive cosmetic, a composition for the skin or a drug composition containing the fats and oils is obtained. In case of the composition for cosmetic or for the skin, content of the fats and oils of mold is 1W30wt%, and in case of the nutritive composition, content of fats and oils of mold is 1.34W15wt%. The fats and oils of mold are blended with preferably an antioxidant such as tocopherol, etc., so that the fats and oils of mold are advantageously stabilized. In case of the drug composition, the fats and oils are applicable in the shape of capsule for oral administration. The mold itself before extraction of the fats and oils of mold or a deactivated mold can be used advantageously as a pet food, especially a pet food for cats.
