Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition capable of correcting insulin-resistant state and useful as an agent for treating diabetes by formulating RAR-specific ligand and a fatty acid therewith.
SOLUTION: This composition contains a ligand specific to RAR and RXR receptor displaying affinity for the nucleic receptor for retinoic acid and/or its isomer, and a fatty acid (e.g. α-linoleic acid and arachidonic acid) in physiologically acceptable medium. The ligand is exemplified by 4-[(5,6,7,8- tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-2-naphthyl)carboxamido]benzoic acid. The composition is enterally, parenterally or percutaneously administered, and the daily dose is 0.005-5 mg/kg. The composition is used for treatment of type II diabetic, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease such as atherosclerosis.
