To provide a composition for a near infrared ray absorbing material which absorbs largely and broadly the near infrared region, does not impair the near infrared ray absorption performance during a manufacturing process of a liquid crystal device or the like, and is excellent in heat resistance; and to provide a near infrared ray absorbing material using the same.

The composition for a near infrared ray absorbing material comprises (A) a phthalocyanine dye, (B) a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic monomer, and (C) a (meth)acrylate copolymer. The near infrared ray absorbing material is obtained by applying the composition on a base material.
