PURPOSE: To prepare a composition for oral cavity application, having improved stability, by compounding hydroxyethyl cellulose added with a specific amount of ethylene oxide.
CONSTITUTION: An oral cavity composition containing 0.5W4wt% of hydroxyethyl cellulose added with 1.8W2.8mol., pref. 2.0W2.5mol of ethylene oxide. The addition of the above compound prevents the salting-out of hydroxyethyl cellulose even in the presence of a large amount of electrolyte, and suppresses the variation of the viscosity of the system. Consequently, there is no trouble of powder coagulation when used in a powder-containing system, e.g. tooth paste composition, and the system thus obtained has excellent surface appearance and is resistant to the solid-liquid separation even by storing under hot conditions for a long period.
