Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions for preventing or treating diabetes utilizing tetraspanin-2 (TSPAN2).SOLUTION: The invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating diabetes comprising, as an effective component, an agent that inhibits expression or activity of TSPAN2 protein. Also provided is a method for screening therapeutic agents for diabetes comprising the steps of: (a) contacting a test substance to a cell expressing TSPAN2 gene; (b) measuring the TSPAN2 gene expression levels in the cell and a control cell not contacted with the test substance; and (c) selecting a test substance that lowers the TSPAN2 gene expression level as compared to the control cell as a candidate of therapeutic substance.SELECTED DRAWING: None
