PURPOSE: To provide a surface-treating composition giving various materials antifungal capability, also highly sustainable in its effect, and causing no toxic component to be leached, comprising a biguanidyl-contg. alkoxysilane and/or biguanidyl-contg. polysiloxane and a specific alkoxide compound.
CONSTITUTION: The composition comprising (A) 100 pts.wt. of a component selected from silicon, titanium and zirconium compounds each having at least two alkoxy groups (pref. tetramethoxysilane or tetraethoxysilane) and (B) 0.01-500 pts.wt. of biguanidyl-contg. alkoxysilane (pref. a compound of the formula (Z is phenyl, n-propyl, etc.) and/or biguanidyl-contg. polysiloxane. In case the component B is a biguanidyl-contg. alkoxysilane, it is recommended, in general, that the aimed composition be prepared by dissolving both the components A and B in a solvent (pref. methanol or ethanol).
