PURPOSE: To suppress pseudo-gap action of magnetic material junction part and achieve the improvement in S/N by constituting respective magnetic cores in tape contact face with two kinds of magnetic materials and making the junction face thereof non-parallel to the length direction of a magnetic gap.
CONSTITUTION: Pole pieces 3, 3' having a recording-reproducing gap 4 are composed of Sendust, monocrystalline ferrite, etc. of high saturation magnetic flux density and yoke parts 5, 5' composed of ferrite, etc. of lower saturation magnetic flux density than that of the pieces 3, 3' and higher effective magnetic permeability. The junction faces c'-c and e'-e of both materials are so constituted as to respectively assume an angle θA to gap face g-g' on the tape sliding face. Hence, even if a slight gap that cannot be avoided is produced on the junction faces, the reproduction sensitivity as a pseudo-gap is reduced as much as azimuth loss as compared to those having the junction faces parallel to the lengthwise direction of the gap. Thereby, suppressing pseudo-gap action, S/N may be improved.
