To provide a nonlinear optical material or an electrooptic material which is spontaneously polarized and oriented or easily controlled for polarized orientation and is suitable for fabricating a nonlinear optical element and an electro-optic element.
The nonlinear optical material is expressed by a general formula (I). In the formula, each of Ar1-Ar4 is an aromatic ring, an aromatic heterocyclic ring with the number of ring constituents 5-6 or a condensed ring thereof, each of E1, A1 is H or an electron attracting group, E2 is an electron attracting group and each of B1, B2 is a single bond, -CH=CH-, -C≡C-, -N=N-, -COO- or -COS-. Each of n, m is 1 or 2. D1 is O, S or -NR2-. Each of R1, R2 is H or a 1-20C alkyl group. L1 is a bivalent connecting group. D2 is O, S or -NR3-. R3 is H or a 1-20C alkyl group.
