Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new biodegradable plastic by effectively utilizing waste PET bottles, and to provide a method for producing the same plastic. SOLUTION: This method for producing a biodegradable polyester where the content of terephthalic acid component is 5-50 wt.% based on the total content of the terephthalic acid component and succinic acid component comprises the following processes: a waste PET bottle chip-liquefying process for obtaining a liquid product by reacting waste PET bottle chips with 1,4- butanediol at >=140 deg.C in the presence of a transesterification catalyst; and a polyester-producing process for producing a polyester made from terephthalic acid component, succinic acid component and 1,4-butanediol component by adding dimethyl succinate to the above liquid product to react them at 100-140 deg.C while discharging methanol as a by-product and then heating the reaction product at >=190 deg.C to perform further reaction.
