Abstract:
Pressurized air systems (200) for aircraft (100) and related methods are described herein. An example pressurized air system (200) includes a compressor having a compressor inlet (240) and a compressor outlet (242). The compressor inlet (240) receives air from a first air source (243) and the compressor outlet (242) supplies pressurized air to an environmental control system (ECS) (202). The pressurized air system (200) includes a turbine (208) having a turbine inlet (268) to receive air from a second air source (267), a first overrunning clutch (261) operatively coupled between an output shaft (260) of an accessory gearbox (252) and the compressor, the accessory gearbox (252) operatively coupled to a drive shaft (206) extending from an engine (108) of the aircraft (100), and a second overrunning clutch (265) operatively coupled between the compressor and the turbine (208). The first and second overrunning clutches (261, 265) enable the accessory gearbox (252) to drive the compressor during a first mode of operation and enable the turbine (208) to drive the compressor during a second mode of operation.
