Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression ignition type internal combustion engine capable of suppressing an increase in the capacity of a combustion chamber due to a recessed portion provided in common with a spark ignition type internal combustion engine, while securing the capacity of a cavity.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 1 includes a cylinder head 2 and a piston 5. The cylinder head 2 includes a center part 12 exposed to a combustion chamber E, and the piston 5 includes a top part 51 exposed to the combustion chamber E. The center part 12 includes a recessed portion 13, and the top part 51 includes a protruded portion 512 corresponding to the recessed portion 13. The recessed portion 13 is provided in the cylinder head 2, as a portion which is provided in common with an internal combustion engine 1' in the stage of a pre-molding 10. The recessed portion 13 increases the capacity of the combustion chamber E. In the internal combustion engine 1, the protruded portion 512 is inserted into the recessed portion 13 when the piston 5 is located at a top dead center.
