Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an emulsion by preparing an original solution for emulsion containing water-insoluble cellulosic polymer, then concentrating the solution using an ultrafiltration membrane to carry out easy emulsification without using of an emulsifier.
CONSTITUTION: At first, water-insoluble cellulose polymer (for example, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, ethylcellulose) is dissolved in an organic solvent which is miscible with water in any proportion (for example, methanol) or a mixture thereof with water to prepare a polymer solution of 2-10%, polymer concentration. Then, water is admixed to the solution, preferably in a proportion of 80-300% based on the polymer solution to cause self-emulsification to an original solution for emulsion in which the weight ratio of the organic solvent to water is 2:8 or lower. Further, the original solution is subjected to ultrafiltration using a membrane (preferably a porous membrane having 50,000-200,000 fractional molecular weight) until the polymer concentration exceeds 7%.
