To provide a distillation condenser improved in control stability of a distillation column, easy to select a cooling medium in the condenser and reduced in the equipment cost by making good use of the latent heat of vaporization of the cooling medium and setting the operation pressure of the distillation column optionally.
This distillation condenser is a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, the heat transfer surface of which is constituted of the first heat transfer surface through which heat is exchanged between the vapor of a material to be distilled and an intermediate heat transfer medium and the second heat transfer surface through which heat is exchanged between the intermediate heat transfer medium and the cooling medium. Such a mixture of a condensable fluid and an incondensable fluid is used as the intermediate heat transfer medium, as has the prescribed relation among the boiling points of the mixture, the material to be distilled and the cooling medium. The mixture is enclosed between the first heat transfer surface and second heat transfer surface.
