To impart excellent moisture absorption and desorption properties by having a deliquescent material carried in the pores of a porous material having a specific structure.
This conditioning material is obtained by containing a deliquescent material carried in the pores of a continuous porous material having a structure in which adjacent, nearly spherical pores are communicated through small holes and having a porosity in the range of 50-95%. This conditioning material is prepared by polymerizing a water-in-oil emulsion composition comprising an aqueous solution of the deliquescent material, a polymerizable unsaturated compound, a reverse emulsifier and a polymerization initiator and then removing water. The deliquescent material includes calcium chloride, lithium chloride, magnesium chloride and sodium polyacrylate. The polymerizable unsaturated compound includes styrene, α-methylstyrene and methyl methacrylate. The emulsifier includes sorbitan sesquiolate and sorbitan monooleate. Common radical and redox polymerization initiators can be used as the polymerization initiator.
