To provide a connector assembly which simplifies the structure of a contact, and constituting an element and a chamber in the longitudinal direction of a base housing so as to insert contacts of different types into the contact assembly.

This connector assembly 1 has the base housing 3 for housing a plurality of contacts 2, and a pressure plate housing 6, fit to the connecting end of the base housing 3 and latched to the base housing 3 in the fitting position. The chamber 7 in the longitudinal direction formed in the base housing 3 has a mating latch element 12 in almost the central part 11. The contact 2 is detachably inserted into the chamber 7 in the longitudinal direction and a has a pressure contact end 8, a contact end 9 on the opposite side to the pressure contact end 8, and a central region 10 arranged between them. The mating latch element 12 is latched with a latch element 13 formed in the central region 10, irrespective of the structure of the pressure contact end 8 and the contact end 9, when the contact 2 is positioned in the insertion position.
