PURPOSE: To achieve the connection of superior temperature and humidity characteristics, mechanical strength, etc. by using the mixed adhesive agent of ethyl αcyanoacrylate and isoproply α-cyanoacrylate as an adhesive agent in connecting two pieces of optical fibers by using the specific connector.
CONSTITUTION: Two pieces of optical fibers 4, 4' are removed of their clads 5, 5', and are retained by a retaining cover 3 on a cradle 1 having a guide V-groove (shown in B-B sectional drawing). The clads 5, 5' are connected by using a connector retaining these by retaining covers 2, 2' (shown by C-C sectional drawing). At this time, the adhesive agent 7 mixed with ethyl α-cyanoacrylate of high initial adhesive strength and isopropyl α-cyanoacrylate of high stability against deterioration with 5/5W8/2 mixing ratio (ethyl/isopropyl) as an adhesive agent is penetrated into the butt portion 7 of the fibers 4, 4' and the space between the clads 5, 5' and the pedestal 1, whereby the fibers are connected. It is proper to control the viscosity of the mixed adhesive agent to 50W200cps. In this way, the connection of high reliability is made feasible.
