To provide a connector having a simple structure which allows misregistration caused by fitting to be absorbed without impairing the strength of the connector.

The connector comprises a plug and a receptacle fitted into the plug. The connector also comprises a projection part formed of an insulation material for retaining the receptacle contact and projecting on a receptacle housing in a direction perpendicular to the fitting direction. A wall part having a groove which extends along the fitting direction and to which the projection part provided on the receptacle housing is fitted is arranged on the plug housing for retaining the receptacle contact. The width of the projection part is smaller than the width of the groove. The receptacle oscillates as being fitted in the plug housing in the direction perpendicular to the fitting direction to absorb misregistration.
