PURPOSE: To supply items to be packaged to a packaging machine without the need of counting the number of the items, by a method wherein the items are raked up from a pool conveyer by a rake conveyer, transferred into each of compartments of a feed conveyer and fed into a packaging bag of the packaging machine by the specified number at a time from a lower opening.

CONSTITUTION: A pool conveyer 2 has side walls to prevent items 1 to be packaged from falling down and the items 1 supplied are gathered on a declining slope 3. A rake conveyer 5 has rake arms 7 mounted on plate-like brackets 6 and rakes up the items 1 one by one. A bucket 9 turns on a rotary shaft 10 and transfers the items 1 into a compartment of a feed conveyer 12. The feed conveyer 12 has a side wall 14 to prevent the items 1 from falling down and upright partitions on the conveying plane, and the conveying plane of the feed conveyer 12 is intermittently moved so that the items 1 are gathered by the specified number in each of the compartments and fallen down into a packaging material 14 from a lower opening situated at the end of the feed conveyer 12.
